The main thing to take note of here, is that is a featural, syllabic script. That is, each «letter» is actually composed of two parts, each representing the consonant (or the lack of) and the vowel part of them. Think of it like Hangul, which each little fragment is a different sound, when combined show the pronunciation of the whole character. Unlike the famous Madoka runes, which are a direct substitution for the German alphabet, this Dogscript is a direct substitution for hiragana syllables. It combines two awesome features to form a full syllabic writing system with just 15 different basic symbols!
